Week Round Up
What a week it has been for table tennis players from Wales. Here is a quick report on the various results around the UK and Europea competitions:
Charlotte Carey and partner Tatianna Kukulkova reached the last 16 of the ITTF Portugal Challenger Plus Series women’s doubles event, losing to Japan. Charlotte lost out to Su Pie-Ling of Chinese Taipei in the singles. The competition was played in Lisbon
Anna Hursey, Beth Richards, Grace Clement and Lara Whitton travelled to the city of Hodonin, to play the ITTF Czech Youth Open. Both Lara & Anna reached the last 32 of the cadet singles. Beth made it through junior girls qualification to lose out to Harimoto (JPN) in last 64. Anna/Beth & Grace/Caraulnaia (PUR) lose in last 32 round of Junior doubles. Lara & Anna reached the QF of the cadet team losing to Hungary 3/1.
Swansea University Me beat Aberystwyth 13-4 in the BUCS league. The women’s team beat Bristol to gain promotion to Western Conference 1.
In the Blackpool 4* Open, Danielle Kelly reached the final losing to Scotland’s Faye Leggett. Ruby Elliott won the U13 girls with Evan Williams runner up in the cadet Band 2. Rhys Hetherton reached the QF of the U13 boys. Ruby & Evan lost in the last 16 of their respective cadet events.
Benedict Watson (Open), Beth Jones (U15), Toby Harwood (U13), Harri Palfrey (U11) and Eden Western (U9) were winners at the monthly Cardiff Dragon held at Cardiff City TTC.
Simon Oyler ran a Welsh Hopes Camp for the next generation of players at Swansea University, with over 20 young hopefuls in attendance it’s time to coach the next champions.
Cardiff City TTC were in British League action in Halton. The Welsh club beat Swerve but lost to St Mary’s Hull
Harri Docherty came 6th (U14s) at the Milton Keynes 2* Open. He also made the QF of the U15s.
Sasha Lewis came 3rd place in under 15’s and 4th in under 13’s in Plymouth 2*. Oscar Marriott and Harri Docherty also competed.
