Vets Home Nations 2018

Ryan Jenkins, the 12 x former Welsh Men’s Champion, took a clean sweep of 3 Gold medals at the 2018 Home Nations held at Sport Wales National Centre this weekend.

The newcomer to the Vets scene beat Andrew Wilkinson 3/0 in the final to claim top spot in the Men’s O40s singles. He also claimed Gold in the Men’s doubles (with Ryan Owen) and the Team event.

Lesley Keast won Gold in the O50 women’s singles and took Silver in the Vets 50s women doubles with partner Regina Grech in the final match of the day. On the other side of the hall Dennis Bromage and Roger Thomas won a silver in the O75 doubles. A variety of our medals were won in the plate events (full report to follow).

On Saturday, Lee Thomas, Neil Wright and Ryan Owen partnered up with Jenkins to beat England and break their stronghold on the O40 Men event, which have lasted years. Andy Trott and Andrew Wilkinson took the Silvers on offer for England.

There were more medals for Wales in the Over 40 women’s Team with Judith Whitton, Marilyn Morgan and Christina Wright. Lesley Keast and Regina Grech brought home another Silver in the Over 50 women team event, losing to England A.

There was a further Bronze for the home nation with the Over 75s taking Bronze (Dennis Bromage & Roger Thomas).
