Pain in Spain

A young squad of Pathway and Development players from the British Para Table Tennis Team found it tough going on the first day of the 2018 PTT Spanish Open in Sant Cugat del Vallḗs, near Barcelona. With a number of the world’s top players competing in the Factor 20 tournament the competition was strong but there were some promising performances from British players.

Cellan was beaten 3-1 by Jedsada Yodyangdeang from Thailand, the Asian Championship team bronze medallist, and 3-0 by 14 year old Swedish newcomer Isak Nyholm. The 20 year old Welshman put up a great fight in his final group match against Daniel Rodriguez Ochoa from Argentina taking the first set 17-15 but the experienced former PanAmerican champion and 2017 PanAmerican silver medallist took the match in four close sets.

The full British squad competing in the PTT Spanish Open is:

Craig Allen – Class 9 (Bromsgrove)
