Champions Retain Their Titles In Swansea

Charlotte Carey won her 4th National singles title with Callum Evans completing a 4 Gold haul down at Swansea University over the weekend.

Charlotte beat Commonwealth team mate Chloe Thomas in the final 4/2 and the other team mate in Anna Hursey in the semis 4/0. The Ebbw Vale born player now travels onto Thailand for the ITTF World Tour event in Bangkok this week to try and break the top 100 in the world. Beth Roberts made up the semis and had a fantastic battle with Chloe in the other semis. Jamie-Lee Harley, Lara Whitton and Beth Richards all caused trouble for players in the group stages.

Callum retained his grip on the cup for another 12 months with an emphatic 4/0 win in the final vs Ryan Owen. Ryan navigated a few tricky encounters to reach the final with close wins against Marc Castro and Dean Cundy in the QF and SF respectively. Callum beat Yameen Al-Dahiri and Ryan Oyler leading into his final match.

Callum went onto partner brother Louie to win the Men’s Doubles. He also claimed the U21 men’s title beating Marc Castro 4/1 and mixed doubles (with Charlotte) to win 4 events on the day. Charlotte won 3 with her doubles win with Callum (mixed) over Beth Roberts & Dean Cundy and Chloe (Women’s Doubles) over Lara Whitton & Grace Clement.

In the Vets Doubles Mark Farrow and Lee Thomas lost the first set but eventually turned it around to win 3/1 against Neil Wright and Steve Hall. Neil Wright did win the singles title by beating Ryan Owen in his second showdown of the day.

Anna Hursey was again a winner – this time in the U21 women’s competition beating Beth Richards 4/2 in the final. Beth beat World Championships team member Beth Roberts in the group stages.

Ruby Elliott claimed both U11 and U13 singles wins. Lili-Mai Maitland landed second spot in the U13 girls round robin, with Lowri Hurd runner up in the U11s. Toby Harwood collect his first National title beating Oliver Page 3/1 in a great final showcase.

Evan O’Connor beat Rhys Hetherington in the final of the U13 boys 3/1. It’s impressive to know Rhys has been playing just a matter of months so far, so we await his name in 12 months time.

In the Vets Over 60s Gareth Dommett ran out winner defeating Ray Goulding in the final 3/0.
