Young Wales players gain valuable experience at International Primary Schools 2026
The International Primary Schools 2026 tournament was held in Largs, bringing together teams from across the British Isles to compete against high-quality international opposition. Across the event, both team and individual competitions provided a challenging and rewarding experience for all players involved, showcasing resilience, sportsmanship, and developing talent.
Team Events
Boys Team
The boys’ team faced a demanding programme of fixtures against strong opposition from Scotland, England, Ireland, and the Channel Islands. Despite some tough results, the team demonstrated determination throughout and finished the tournament 4th overall.
· Scotland A: 8–2 – Loss
· Jersey: 10–0 – Win
· Ireland: 8–2 – Loss
· England: 10–0 – Loss
· Scotland B: 7–3 – Win
· Guernsey: 10–0 – Win
Particular highlights included emphatic 10–0 victories against Jersey and Guernsey, while the 7–3 win over Scotland B reflected improved cohesion and confidence as the event progressed.
Girls Team
The girls’ team also faced tough international opposition and competed strongly throughout the tournament. After a series of closely contested matches, the team finished 5th overall on count back, underlining how competitive the event was.

· Ireland: 10–0 – Loss

· Scotland B: 5–5 – Draw
· Guernsey: 9–1 – Win
Notable performances included impressive wins against Jersey and Guernsey, alongside a hard-fought 5–5 draw with Scotland B, highlighting the team’s determination and resilience.
Singles Events
The singles competitions allowed players to test themselves individually, with several progressing well into both the main and consolation draws.

A standout performance came from Sophie Williams, who claimed the consolation gold medal, while the team recorded two quarter-final appearances in the main draw and two semi-final finishes in the consolation events, highlighting depth, resilience, and consistency across the competition.

With the boys finishing fourth overall and the girls placing fifth on count back, the event highlighted strong performances across team and singles events, contributing positively to the players’ ongoing development.
