Yale Coleg Cambria delivering outstanding table tennis development
Yale Coleg Cambria has enjoyed an outstanding year of table tennis development, delivering a wide range of programmes that have inspired children, developed young leaders and strengthened community partnerships across Wrexham and North Wales.
Working alongside Active Wrexham, Table Tennis Wales, local primary schools and community organisations, the college has become a centre for participation, leadership and player development, providing opportunities for hundreds of young people to experience the sport.

Bringing Table Tennis into Schools
One of the highlights of the year was a visit to Bwlchgwyn Primary School, where fun and engaging table tennis taster sessions were delivered throughout the school day.
More than 100 pupils took part in activities designed to develop fundamental movement skills, coordination and confidence, while introducing the basics of table tennis through exciting games and challenges.
The enthusiasm generated by the sessions extended beyond the school gates. Just one month later, Bwlchgwyn Scouts and Cubs attended Yale Coleg Cambria for another table tennis taster session, further strengthening community links and giving even more young people the opportunity to discover the sport.
Developing Future Sports Leaders
A key success this year has been the delivery of a Table Tennis Activator Course for the Level 2 Sport students at Yale Coleg Cambria.
The course equipped students with the knowledge and confidence to deliver fun, inclusive table tennis sessions while developing valuable leadership, communication and coaching skills.

The students quickly put these new skills into practice by leading activities at the Primary School Table Tennis Festival.
Each group of participants spent seven minutes at each activity station before moving on when the whistle sounded. At the end of every activity, children received a reward sticker before rotating to the next station, where another Level 2 Sport student welcomed them with enthusiasm and explained the next challenge.
The students planned and managed their own activities, creating a fun and energetic atmosphere that kept every participant active and engaged throughout the event. Their confidence and professionalism demonstrated the success of the Activator Course and highlighted the important role young leaders can play in delivering sport within their communities.
Primary School Table Tennis Festival
The Primary School Festival provided children from across Wrexham with an exciting introduction to table tennis through a series of skill challenges, games and fun competitions.
The event focused on participation, inclusion and enjoyment, ensuring that every child experienced success regardless of previous ability or experience.

The leadership shown by the Yale Coleg Cambria Level 2 Sport students was outstanding and played a significant role in making the festival a memorable experience for everyone involved.
Primary School Championships
The annual Primary School Table Tennis Championships provided pupils with the opportunity to represent their schools in a competitive environment while promoting sportsmanship and enjoyment.
The event was supported by the Level 3 Sport students from Yale Coleg Cambria, who volunteered throughout the day and gained invaluable practical experience in sports event management.
Their responsibilities included scoring matches, assisting with administration, organising participants, supporting officials and encouraging players throughout the competition. Their professionalism and enthusiasm ensured the championships ran smoothly while creating a welcoming and supportive environment for all competitors.

The experience also allowed the students to develop transferable leadership and organisational skills that will benefit them in future careers within the sports industry.
Eight-Week Beginner Programme
Another major success has been the introduction of the Eight-Week Beginner Table Tennis Programme, an initiative originally suggested by Louise Brady from Active Wrexham.
The programme provided a structured pathway for children who were new to the sport, covering grip, stance, movement, consistency, serving and rallying through fun and progressive coaching sessions.
The course has successfully encouraged many participants to continue playing through local clubs and regular coaching sessions, creating an important bridge between school activity and long-term participation.

Looking to the Future
The work undertaken throughout the year has demonstrated the enormous potential for table tennis development in Wrexham and North Wales.
By combining school outreach, community engagement, leadership development, activator education, beginner coaching programmes, festivals and competitive events, Yale Coleg Cambria has created a clear pathway from first experience to lifelong participation.
The continued support of Active Wrexham, Table Tennis Wales, local schools, volunteers and community partners has been instrumental in the success of these initiatives.
With exciting plans for further Activator Courses, expanded school competitions and additional community programmes, Yale Coleg Cambria is rapidly establishing itself as a centre of excellence for table tennis development in North Wales—developing not only the next generation of players, but also the coaches, volunteers and sports leaders of the future.
