Welsh players shine at Home Nations Veteran Championships in Guernsey

Table Tennis Wales is delighted to have had Welsh players shine at the 2024 Home Nations Veteran Championships, hosted in Guernsey between 13 and 15 September.

The players that travelled out to represent their country were:

Jeff Rigby; John Hook; Tracey Sambrook; Tony Needham; Mike Marsden; Danny Harris; Neil Cox; Jane Reeks; Mark Farrow; Colin Price; Nigel Gore; Mark Edmunds; David Lloyd; Paul Holiday; Peter Gordon; Phil Avery; Lesley Avery; Bryan Fernandes; Tony Bartram; Bhanureka Sabaratnam; Claire Flannagan; Denise Bromage; Gillian Richardson; Lynne Harrison-Bowen; and Steve Eades.

These players competed against the best players from England, Ireland, Scotland, Jersey, Isle of Man and Guernsey in 40+, 50+, 60+, 70+ and 75+ categories, and enjoyed an array of success against their opposition throughout the weekend.

Not since 2018 have there been so many medal achievements for Wales:

 

Mike Marsden won Gold in the Men’s 40+ Singles

Bhanureka Sabaratnam and Claire Flannagan won Bronze in the Ladies’ 40+ Team event

Tracy Sambrook, Gillian Richardson; Lynne Harrison-Bowen; and Lesley Avery won Bronze in the Ladies’ 50+ Team event

Neil Cox, Danny Harris and Mike Marsden won Silver in the Men’s 40+ Team event

John Hook, Mark Edmunds, Jeff Rigby, Jane Reeks and Steve Eades won Silver in the Mixed 60+ Team event

Mike Marsden and Danny Harris won Silver in the Men’s 40+ Doubles

Jeff Rigby and John Hook won Silver in the Men’s 60+ Doubles

Colin Price and Dennis Bromage won Silver in the Men’s 75+ Doubles

Bhanureka Sabaratnam won Silver in the Ladies’ 40+ Singles

 

“The players who represented Wales and the ones who achieved medal success all contributed to placing Veteran Table Tennis in Wales at the top table in Great Britain and Ireland,” commented Steve Eades, the TTW Home Nations Delegate. “Once again Welsh Veterans have punched above our weight and brought pride to Wales.

“The Dragon goes again in England in 2025 and these players have set the bar for those who follow. Da iawn.”
