Wales’ men head to Bosnia and Herzegovina for European Team Qualification Event

Table Tennis Wales’ men’s team is gearing up for the European Team Qualification Event, taking place in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina, from 21-25 January.

This tournament marks a significant step forward for Welsh table tennis as a youthful squad looks to gain valuable international experience and build towards a bright future for the sport in Wales.

The team, led by Player-Coach Lloyd Gregory, includes three teenagers making their senior debuts: Harri Docherty, 19, Toby Harwood, 16, and Harry Street, 15. They will be joined by two-time Paralympian Joshua Stacey, bringing experience and leadership to the squad.

The men’s tournament features 21 nations, including teams from Spain, Greece, and the Netherlands. With six places available at the European Championships final tournament in Croatia this October, the competition will be fierce.

The draw has pitted Wales against Norway, Luxembourg, Lithuania, San Marino and Greenland in an initial group stage, while a second group stage will eventually determine the qualifiers.

While the men’s team battles for qualification, the Welsh women’s team has already booked their place at the European Championships thanks to their performance at the 2023 Championships.

With an emphasis on development and a commitment to giving young players the opportunity to shine, the Welsh men’s team is focused on making their mark in Sarajevo.

Good luck to Joshua, Harri, Toby, Harry, and Lloyd as they represent Wales on the international stage!
