Table Tennis Wales to once again deliver Food and Fun sessions this summer, with Anna Hursey continuing as Ambassador

Table Tennis Wales will once again collaborate with the Welsh Local Government Association (WLGA) to deliver Food and Fun sessions this summer.

We’re excited to reveal that we’ll be working with around 35 schools throughout Wales to deliver table tennis sessions as part of the scheme this summer.

The objective is to work with schools in local communities that have perhaps never had the opportunity to give table tennis a go.

Through collaboration with Food and Fun, we are aiming to inspire and engage young people across Wales throughout the summer holidays to get involved and be more active with table tennis and, more generally, with sport.

We hope to achieve this through fun, exciting and engaging games to involve all young people with different abilities and backgrounds.

To further facilitate this, “On the Go” equipment packs will be made available to each school.

We are thrilled that Welsh table tennis star Anna Hursey will once again be a Food and Fun Ambassador, having become the campaign’s first Ambassador last year.

“I was so happy to be the first official Ambassador for Food and Fun,” Anna stated.

“It provides an environment for children from deprived areas so that they can thrive in a sport. Food and Fun also gives children the opportunity to be exposed to less mainstream sports, and I’m extremely proud that table tennis is part of the scheme.”

Starting as a pilot run by Cardiff Council around a decade ago, Food and Fun is a school-based education programme that provides food and nutrition education, physical activity, enrichment sessions, and healthy meals to children during the school summer holidays.

The campaign has developed into a national, fully funded Welsh Government programme administered by the WLGA.

In 2023, 175 schools delivered the programme and provided over 11,150 places for children each day that it ran.
