Table Tennis-On the Go packs at Treharris Boys and Girls Club!

Treharris Boys and Girls Club were given Table Tennis Activity Packs through its partnership with Street Games. The club was fortunate to have 15 packs in total. We posted a notice on our social media pages for members to collect on a first come first serve basis. Some packs were given to members of our Table Tennis Club and some were given to our Duke of Edinburgh’s Award participants who are playing table tennis as part of their physical activity section of their Award.

The packs were well received, our members have been able to play at home and has helped to remain active indoors. The net included means that table tennis can be played on any flat surface.

A mother of two of our members said, “the kits were awesome, the boys have been playing in the kitchen, they loved having the table tennis kit”.

The table tennis kits have enabled our members to be active indoors especially during the latest Tier 4 lockdown. The kits have enabled our Table Tennis Club members to continue their interest in the sport and they cannot wait to resume playing at the club.

Table Tennis helps our members to be physically active and contributes to the club’s overall physical activity programme. We have found that table tennis is a very accessible sport and a great way to engage our Duke of Edinburgh’s Award (DofE) participants in physical activity. Some of our new enrolments who are not physically active are encouraged to play. DofE participants are required to complete a physical activity challenge to achieve their Award.

The club will reopen as soon as the lockdown is lifted, staff are keen to develop their coaching skills and the club to enable our non-active members to play table tennis and become physically active.
