Rhondda Dominant at Senior Team Championships
The penultimate weekend of the Senior
Team Championships of Wales took place over the weekend at the prestigious Sport Wales National Centre.
The competition saw 48 teams compete across 8 divisions with over 190 players represent their club through the season.
Premier Division
In a highly contested division, the Evans brothers, Callum, and Louie together with Harri Docherty lead Rhondda A to perfect a 10 out of 10 match wins to secure the top prize and be crowned the Champions Of Wales. Second place went to Swansea A as they saw of newly promoted Swansea University A who finished 2 points behind in 3rd place. North Gwent A secured 4th spot and the chance to compete in the top division again next season, while Swansea B and Gwent A finished in the bottom two positions and will play in Division 1 next season.
Callum Evans led the way in the individual averages with a perfect record of 20 match wins from 20 games.
Division One
A young, inspired Rhondda B secured top spot and promotion to the Premier division after winning 9 out of 10 matches, but remained undefeated after drawing one games. Second place was tightly contested but it was Cam Gears who saw of Swansea University B and Swansea C to secure second place and gain promotion to the Premier Division next season. Swansea I and Swansea D ended the season in the relegation places and will compete in division two next season.
Rhondda B Chris Griffiths toped the individual average with a perfect 20 wins from 20.
Division Two
North Wales, Trinity edged Rhondda E to the division title which saw both teams gain promotion. North Gwent B took the bronze medal with Swansea E securing their divisional status. Rhondda C and Gwent B both finished just a point behind but saw them both relegated into Division three.
Abhishek Bathula toped the individual averages after winning 20 matches from 20.
Division Three
In their debut season, Northop topped the division and secured promotion to Division Two after winning 9 out of 10 matches. Swansea University C took the silver medal and gained the second spot of promotion, The bronze medal went to Bridgend while Swansea F finished the competition strong after beating the division winners to secure their divisional status. Cardiff A and Gwent C ended the season in the relegation positions which will see them competing in Division four next season.
The individual averages were shared by Northop duo Marcus Ka Lam Lai and Rosen Andreev who both won 15 from 16 matches.
Division Four
Rhondda continued their dominants in the Senior Team Championships, this time with Rhondda D securing top spot, followed by an impressive second weekend of results for Gwent E which saw them secure the second promotion spot. Cardiff C finished the season with the bronze medal while just a point behind them, North Gwent C secured their divisional status, at the hands of Gwent D and Swansea G who finished in the relegation positions.
The individual average was topped by Bhanureka Sabaratnam after winning 19 from 20 matches. Rhondda Ethan Davies took a 100 % record but with only playing 50% of matches was unable to top the individual averages.
Division Five
In another debutant season, Rhiwbina secured a perfect record to take the division five title and gain promotion for next season. A young Rhondda F team managed to see off Swansea J to the silver medal position and gain promotion. Swansea University D manged to secure 4th place and a place in the division next season. North Gwent D and E finished in the relegation places.
The individual averages were dominated by the Rhiwbina team, after 20 individual games, James Fenton along with son Daniel Fenton ended the season with a 100% record, while younger son Ryan Fenton ended the season with 19 wins from 20.
Division Six
It was the youngsters from Penlan A who ended the season on the top of the table and claim the gold medal, Second place went to another young contingent in Rhondda G who managed to gain promotion at the expense of bronze medal winners and debutants Fishguard. Rhondda H finished the season in fourth place. North Gwent F and Cardiff B ended in 5th and 6th respectively.
Cardiff’s Vincent Dion ended the season on the top of the Individual averages following a perfect 100% record from 20 matches played.
Division Seven
Kiran Parry led a young Rhondda K team to the top spot in the division, Ael Y Bryn secured the silver medal and second place, with Swansea H taking the third-place bronze medal.
Penlan B ended the season in 4th spot above two young Rhondda teams who will look to improve next year following valuable experiences in the Senior Team Championships.
Kiran Pary finished on top of the individual averages after winning 18 from 18.
