Meet the volunteers behind Northop Table Tennis Club

At Northop Table Tennis Club, an amazing group of volunteers keeps things running smoothly. With over 50 active players, six qualified coaches (plus assistants), 10 team captains, and a growing junior section, there’s always something happening — and plenty of people making it all possible.

Howard Satchell
The club’s ever-dedicated club secretary and treasurer — though those titles barely scratch the surface. Unofficially, Howard is the club’s facilitator, organiser-in-chief, and the person who ensures the wheels never fall off. Whether it’s setting up the buzzing club WhatsApp group, running polls on the best new team shirt designs, or updating players about visits from national coaches, Howard keeps everyone informed and involved.

Lynne Harrison
Lynne is the head coach, leading Saturday morning junior sessions that welcome up to 12 young players of mixed ability. Most of these juniors also compete in the local league — which Lynne coordinates — and thanks to her efforts, Northop entered a team in the Junior National League last season. She led the squad to Halton to face off against some of the top teams in North West England, a fantastic achievement for our young players.

Clive Boswell
Clive is Lynne’s right-hand on Saturday mornings and regularly leads junior sessions, ably supported by players like Ron Parry, Andy Smith, Andy Eagles, and Mark Byles. Last season, Clive also captained a junior team in Division 3 of the league, helping them gain valuable experience at a higher level.

Andy Eagles
Andy brings fantastic national connections to the club and has played a key role in inviting top-level coaches to visit. He’s always on hand to support both the club and its players — especially when it comes to sourcing the right equipment.

Of course, behind the scenes, the club also has a dedicated management committee, as well as supportive parents who drive their children to and from sessions and matches.

Together, these fantastic volunteers are the heartbeat of the club, helping table tennis thrive in Northop!
