Meet the Table Tennis Wales Players: Nye Evans
Nye Evans has reached the national level through persistence and determination, showing fantastic consistency to achieve the feat of representing his country.
An exciting player who admires Wang Chuqin for his intensity, speed, and aggressive attacking style, Nye is one of many brilliant talents currently rising up throughout Wales.
We chatted to Nye about his time on the table so far, and what being a national athlete looks like for him.
What have been your most memorable victories and achievements so far?
“So far, my biggest achievement has been winning the U15 National Championships last year.

“It was a really special moment for me because it showed that the hard work I’d put into my training was paying off, and it gave me a lot of confidence moving forward in my career.”
As a national athlete, what does a typical day of training look like for you?
“My training schedule varies depending on competitions and the time of year, but I usually train between two and four hours a day, around six days a week, and more recently regular competitions during the season.
How do you handle the pressure of representing your country on the international stage?
“I’m quite an emotional player and can get very excited in big moments. Because of this, I make an effort to stay as positive as possible and focus on each point at a time.
“Trying to stay as calm as possible helps me channel that emotion in a positive way and perform at my best.”
What advice would you give to aspiring table tennis players?
“Consistency and persistence are essential. Real improvements do not happen in your best moments or biggest wins; improvement comes from consistent training over long periods of time.
“These minuscule gains will gradually compound into real success.”
What are your goals and aspirations for your table tennis career in the coming years?
“I try not to focus too heavily on results, as I believe that with good, consistent performance, results will follow!”
