Meet the Table Tennis Wales Players: Lowri Hurd

Lowri Hurd’s table tennis journey and passion began when she lived in India in her younger years.

From that time playing the sport with her mother and older brother, Lowri has progressed to become a representative of her country. An attacking player who looks up to the amazing Miwa Harimoto, Lowri has high hopes for the future.

We recently spoke to Lowri about her journey, and what it means to play for Wales in spite of the challenges she has faced.

What’s been one of your most memorable moments of your career so far?

“One of my most memorable victories was winning my first ever national title at U19 Girls level.”

How do you handle the pressure of representing your country on the international stage?

“I often listen to music before matches to calm myself down and I follow the same pre-match routine every game that I have developed over time.

“During high stake matches, I often look down at something on the floor to try to maintain focus and block out the distractions around me.”

As a national athlete, what does a typical day of training look like for you?

“I roughly train between two and three hours a day on top of about 35 minutes to an hour of fitness.

“The hours are longer when I’m away at weekly training camps in Sheffield or overseas, as well.”

What challenges have you faced during your career so far?

“I have faced many challenging moments in my career, but my hardest challenge I have had to overcome so far is being diagnosed with ADHD.

“This diagnosis helped me realise why I struggle to keep focus and stay on top of my emotions.”

What advice would you give to aspiring table tennis players who dream of reaching the National level?

“Train hard!

“Give 100% every session and your efforts will pay off when you play matches!”

What are your goals and aspirations in table tennis?

“My biggest goal in the upcoming years is to possibly represent Wales at the 2028 or 2032 Olympics!”

The future is bright for Lowri and, with the motto “if you don’t believe you can do it, then you have no chance at all”, we’re excited to see where her progression in the sport takes her!
