Wales Win 10 Medals at Home Countries Championships
Largs, Scotland was the destination for the first Home Countries Championships since the COVID-19 Pandemic with a team of 10 players representing Wales across the Men’s, Woman’s, Junior Boys, Cadet Boys and Cadet Girls events. After 3 days of play the team walked away with 10 medals.
As the team event ended on day 2 our Woman’s and Cadet Team’s delivered Wales first medals of the championships. In the Cadet Girls event Darcey Taylor who was partnered with Hannah Silcock of Jersey took the gold medal with the Welsh pairing of Ruby Elliott and Lowri Hurd taking the Silver medal in this category. This was quickly followed by Lara Whitton and Beth Richards whobeat Scotland 3-1 to bring take the silver medal in the Senior Woman’s category.
Shortly after the conclusion of the team event the doubles events got into full swing. Once again our Cadet girls led the way with team Wales meeting team Wales/Jersey in the final and after a close match the outcome was the same as the team event with Darcey and Hannah (Jersey) taking home
the gold medal and Ruby and Lowri taking the silver medal. In the Woman’s doubles Lara and Beth matched their result in the team event winning the silver medal. In the Junior Boys doubles Louie Evans and Harri Docherty came away with the bronze medal after narrowly missing out on bronze in the team event on count back.
Day 3 saw the singles events take place where Wales managed to add 3 more bronze medals to their tally. They came from Beth Richards in the senior Woman’s, Louie Evans in the Junior Boys and Ruby Elliott in the Cadet Girls.
