First ever South West Primary Schools Championships take place in Swansea
Friday March 15 saw the first ever South West Primary Schools Championships take place, with Swansea Bay Sports Park the venue.
It was fantastic to see a total of 15 teams from seven different schools battle it out, with Llangan A the eventual inaugural winners of the competition.
The tournament got underway in the morning with three groups of four and one group of three to determine the second phase of the day.
The competition was subsequently decided with another group format, again with three groups of four teams and another consisting of three, this time arranged so that the morning’s winners were in one group, second placed teams in another, and so forth.
This eventually gave us the following final standings:
- Llangan A
- Llangan B
- Litchard/Ynysfach
- Pengelli A
- YGG Gellionnen A
- YGG Gellionnen D
- YGG Gellionnen B
- Gynradd Ty-Croes C
- Penyfai B
- Penyfai A
- YGG Gellionnen C
- Pengelli B
- Gynradd Ty-Croes A
- Gynradd Ty-Croes B
- Ynysfach
Most importantly, it was amazing to see young players enjoy themselves so much while taking to the table in a friendly, yet competitive, environment. Well done to all involved, with matches proving close from start to finish and players demonstrating visible quality; we are happy to have given each competitor a well-deserved certificate at the end of the day.
Table Tennis Wales would also like to thank Swansea Council for their support with the event, Swansea University Table Tennis for helping with running the day, and of course the volunteers and officials that made it possible.
We are looking forward to running it again next year along with Swansea Council!
