Finland Provides Valuable International Experience for Welsh Players

Welsh players take valuable learnings and experience from the Finlandia Open which took place in Lohja, Finland between the 2nd and 5th December.

 

 

With opportunities to compete on the senior international stage limited over the last 18 months due to COVID-19 it was a delight to see that the Finlandia Open back on the calendar. The format of a progressive knockout meant that the event provides each player the opportunity to gain that match practice that everyone needs by continue to play until every player has their own finishing position.

 

7 Welsh players made the trip. They where Callum Evans, Louie Evans, Rhys Hetherton, Chloe Thomas Wu Zhang, Danielle Kelly, Beth Richards and Lara Whitton.

 

The event didn’t fail to deliver with all players playing between 7 and 9 matches over the 3 days. This gave all players the opportunity to gain valuable experience against players from all over the world, players who use different styles and the opportunity to learn from one match and put it straight into practice in their next match.

 

Wales’s highest finisher was Callum Evans who finished 15th in the Men’s singles and now heads to Düsseldorf, Germany for the WTT Feeder Series from the 7-10th December.
