Enthusiasm soars with Primary School Festival at Yale Coleg Cambria
Following the successful Activators Course held in December, these dedicated Level 2 students took the lead in delivering an engaging and dynamic festival for 60 enthusiastic children from St Mary’s Catholic Primary School.
Aimed at Years 3 and 4, the festival provided a fantastic opportunity for the young participants to experience table tennis in a fun and safe environment. The children were divided into small groups of four or five and rotated between different tables, each offering a new and exciting game. At each station, a Level 2 student facilitated the activity, ensuring that every child was engaged and enjoying themselves. After seven minutes of play, the best performers were awarded stickers before moving on to the next game.
This festival was the result of over a month of meticulous planning by the Level 2 students, who demonstrated impressive dedication and enthusiasm. The event was expertly managed by Olivia Brereton, a Level 2 student, who oversaw the setup, organisation, and overall coordination. Their energy and commitment created a vibrant atmosphere, making the festival an enjoyable experience for all involved.
The event left a lasting impression, not only on the young participants but also on the attending teachers. One teacher expressed interest in having the Level 2 students visit their school for work experience, extending an open invitation. With St Mary’s just a five-minute walk from Yale Coleg Cambria, this opportunity could further strengthen connections between the institutions.
To ensure continued engagement, Table Tennis Wales has promoted its Academy session, held on Tuesday evenings, to all primary school parents via the Seesaw App. The goal is to increase attendance and nurture young talent, providing aspiring table tennis players with the opportunity to progress through the performance pathway, potentially leading to regional squad training and even representing Wales in competition.
At the festival’s conclusion, each primary school student received a medal, with four standout performers being honoured with special certificates. Building on the success of the Primary School Competition held just two weeks earlier, Table Tennis Wales continues to strengthen its partnership with Yale Coleg Cambria and Active Wrexham. This collaboration, initiated through local authorities, has played a key role in expanding the reach of this incredible sport across the community.
With ongoing engagement and enthusiasm, table tennis is set to grow in popularity, providing children with not just a fun pastime but a pathway to excellence and competitive success.
