Coronavirus (COVID-19) – latest advice
How We are Responding to COVID-19 (Monday 1st June 2020)
Return to Play
Following the decision in May to suspend all table tennis activity until 30th June 2020, Table Tennis Wales has been working closely with the Welsh Sports Association and Sport Wales to receive advice and guidance on the various scenarios that the COVID-19 may present. We have also considered the guidelines that the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) have also released which outline five phases to the return to play.
Following the Wales First Minister’s review of lockdown measure on 28th May 2020, the current suspension of table tennis activity will remain in place. Exercise in an indoor sports court, gym or leisure centre is still prohibited and table tennis should only currently be played indoors in your own household and with members of your own household.
Table Tennis Wales is part of a Sport Wales working group of indoor sports to provide recommendations to the Welsh Government on the safe return to play for table tennis. The health of our players, coaches and officials is paramount so we will release recommendations for clubs and players once they have been considered against the guidance and advice and ensure that they minimise the risk of spreading COVID-19. We will also review the suspension of activities after the next Welsh Government announcement and will aim to respond to changes promptly.
Membership
The Table Tennis Wales Board will meet on the 18th June 2020 to discuss the options around membership fees for the coming season. This will be communicated to clubs and players thereafter.
Table Tennis Wales Performance
Along with the Table Tennis Wales Board Director for Performance, the coaching team have completed the new TTW Performance Framework and launched it to players and clubs on the 28th May 2020. The framework gives a clear route map for players to progress on the Welsh Squad pathway and it provides holistic support to the player including strength and conditioning, nutrition advice and sport science testing. The feedback was extremely positive, and the new framework will be implemented when COVID-19 restrictions allow.
2021 European Veterans Championships
Table Tennis Wales has been working closely with the European Table Tennis Union to establish a date for the EVC given that the Bordeaux WVC has moved to April 2021, just prior to the EVC’s original June dates. Dates in 2022 have been requested and we are just waiting on confirmation from the ITTF. An announcement on this will be imminent.
