Competitive experience for young players at the North Wales Primary School Table Tennis Championships

Last month, we successfully hosted our first North Wales Primary School Table Tennis Championships at Yale Coleg Cambria. As a key partner of Table Tennis Wales, Yale Coleg Cambria has played a crucial role in supporting and facilitating multiple events, helping to strengthen the sport’s presence in the region.

Teams from Ysgol Bryn Tabor, a designated TTW Development School, and All Saints in Gresford participated in an exciting round-robin format consisting of nine rounds. Throughout the day, young players had the opportunity to compete, gain valuable match experience, and develop their skills in a structured and supportive environment.

This competition marks a significant step forward in fostering strong connections between local schools and providing competitive opportunities for young players. Moving forward, we aim to continue after-school sessions at Ysgol Bryn Tabor while also promoting our local Academy sessions at Yale Coleg Cambria. This will provide a clear and structured pathway for students to advance their table tennis skills beyond the school setting.

This was well supported by the Yale Coleg Cambria Level 3 Sport students, who were fun and engaging. They helped make this an incredible experience for the youngsters.

Excitingly, George from All Saints has already taken the initiative to establish table tennis sessions at his primary school. Following the Easter break, we plan to offer our support in further developing these sessions to ensure sustained growth and participation.

We believe this competition is just the beginning of a broader movement to engage more young players in table tennis. By progressing through our Academy sessions and into the regional squad, these budding athletes could one day become the next Welsh champions. With continued dedication and structured development, the future of North Wales table tennis looks incredibly promising.
