Carey & Evans Retain their titles

Charlotte Carey & Callum Evans both added another title to their list of achievements in Cardiff today at the Welsh National Championships.

Carey, who has won 5 previous senior titles beat Anna Hursey 4/1 to claim number 6. With just 3 more to go to level with Naomi Owen, the Ebbw Vale player will be working towards that goal. Semi finalists included Danielle Kelly (who had a great win over Chloe Thomas) and Lara Whitton.

Callum beat Marc Castro in the final in another 4/1 encounter. The scores in each set were closely fought with loads of 2 point sets separating the pair. Louie Evans & Josh Stacey made the semi finals respectively.

The U21 Men was won by Josh Stacey. In a huge 7th set battle Marc Castro just fell short in the end and Josh was able to pull through. In the U21 women Anna Hursey added yet one more title to the collection beating Danielle Kelly in the final. Danielle had a great weekend and has learnt valuable lessons from Czech & Sweden in recent weeks.

In the Vets 40 singles, Ryan Owen took the title beating former champion Lee Thomas. Lee, winner on four occasions (2014-2017), couldn’t make it a 5th title this time. Owen Clutterbuck & Dennis Bromage lost at the semi final stage. A shot out to Dennis as he was winner in 2 categories and semi finalist in 2 categories – what a star!!!
