Cardiff Open

Some fantastic matches were played today at Cardiff City Table Tennis Club, which is just off Newport Road, in our Capital City.

With the Cardiff half marathon being held there was a great buzz on the day the players battled for places on the plane to Zagreb next July, and this is the first event of 4 for that qualification.

In the U13 events Eli’s O’Connor and Lowri Hurd lifted the boys and girls Winners trophies respectively defeating Toby Harwood and Sasha Lewis in the finals. The girls was a round robin event with Seren Jones getting 3rd spot.

In the Cadet singles, favourites Rhys Hetherton and Ruby Elliott lived up to their billing by taking the top prize. Ruby defeated Sasha Lewis & Lowri Hurd (Round Robin) whilst Rhys beat Evan O’Connor in the boys event.

Onto the Junior competition and a clash of the titans in the girls final where Lara Whitton beat fellow Commonwealth team mate Beth Richards in the final. Rhys Hetherton claimed the double as he beat Ben Allen in the boys singles.

The Mixed Open event saw Chris Bush erase an earlier group loss to Marc Castro, and reverse the result in the final. Beth Richards & Louie Evans reached the semi finals
