Birmingham Day 4 Match Report
After the intensity of the semi-final the Welsh ladies had less than 12 hours to rest and prepare for the bronze medal match against Australia.
Charlotte and Chloe took the table for the first time this Games in the doubles match against Jee and Lay. The Australian pair produced some amazing table tennis and won 3-0.
Next up was Anna who took on Liu. Despite Liu winning in three straight sets the pair were point for point. Anna lost -13, -9,-9. A truly magnificent performance from the Welsh teenager.
Charlotte went on with true determination but Lay, the most experienced member of the Australian team, entered the arena confident and despite Charlotte taking the second set to juice and losing 12-10 Lay won in three sets and confirmed a 3-0 match victory and bronze medal for Australia.
Wales started the competition ranked 14th and have finished 4th, the highest ever finish for a Welsh Women’s team in the history of the Commonwealth Games. No one can question the fighting spirit the ladies have shown, they have played with pride and passion and demonstrated an exceptional level of team spirit encouraged and nurtured by a professional team of coaches that has been on display throughout the event.
