Birmingham Day 1 match report

What a day!  Our Welsh ladies dominated from start to finish.
In the morning the ladies faced Vanuatu, the 6th seeds in the competition.  Anna and Chloe opened the match with a solid doubles victory over Stephanie Qwea and Tracey Mawa.  A professional performance by our Welsh pair gave the team a 1-0 lead.
Next up was Charlotte who took on Roanna Abel.  Charlotte took charge from the outset and Abel was unable to compete with our Welsh champion.  Anna went on to secure the win for the team with a powerful 3-0 victory against Tracey Mawa.  An amazing start to the Games!
Next up was Uganda, the 11th seeds of the competition at 4pm.  Anna was paired with Lara, who was stepping out for the first time in the Commonwealth arena.  Anna and Lara secured a comfortable 3-0 victory against Judith Nangonzi and Jemimah Nakawala giving the team a fantastic start to the match.  Charlotte was challenged by Florence Seera, but for Seera, it was out of her reach as Charlotte took her second victory of the team event.
Anna once again stepped out to secure the match beating Judith Nabgonzi.  From the first point Anna was in full control and her performance has secured a quarter final place for the team.

Today the ladies take on Canada in their final group game.  If you can join us here in Birmingham we promise a good match.
