ANNA HURSEY – Reaches two quarter finals in Sarajevo

16-year-old Anna Hursey reached two quarter finals (women’s doubles and singles) at the under 21 European championships. Anna was seeded outside the top 16 but played some incredible Table Tennis along the way. In the singles event, Anna beat the number three seed Ozge Yilmaz 4-0, and number ten seed Helga Dari 4-1 to reach the final eight. Unfortunately, Anna eventually lost to her doubles teammate Sophia Klee(Ger) 4-1 in the final 8. Sophia went on to win the silver medal.  Anna played outstandingly throughout and should be very proud considering she is beating and competing with Europe’s best under 21s and has many more years left at this age group.

In the doubles, Anna and Sophia beat some tough opposition before losing in the last 8 to a very strong Ukrainian pair who themselves eventually took the silver medal.

Overall, Anna is happy with her performance and the aim next time around is to medal in both events. Her attention now turns to the WTT circuit and European stage two.
