Fantastic engagement at inaugural Gwent Primary School Table Tennis Championships

The inaugural Gwent Primary School Table Tennis Championships took place this week, bringing together 18 teams from 8 schools across Gwent for an exciting and enjoyable day of competition.

The event used a two‑stage group format, ensuring every team had plenty of matches and the opportunity to build confidence throughout the day. From the very first round, the standard of play was impressive, with pupils demonstrating excellent skill, energy, and sportsmanship. The second group stage raised the level even further, producing some fantastic rallies and closely contested games.

At the end of the final standings, Rogiet Primary School A topped their group and were crowned the first‑ever Gwent Primary School Champions—a brilliant accomplishment in a strong and enthusiastic field.

A huge thank you goes to the Young Ambassadors from Newport Live for their fantastic support throughout the day. Their enthusiasm and help contributed greatly to the smooth running of the event. Appreciation also goes to staff and volunteers Callum Evans, Sam Havers, Luca Strinati, and Sasha Lewis for their time, effort, and commitment.

The atmosphere across the hall was positive and full of energy, with pupils encouraging one another, celebrating great points, and most importantly, enjoying the experience.

Well done to all the schools, players, and helpers who made the first Gwent Primary School Championships such a successful and memorable occasion. The future of primary school table tennis in Gwent looks very bright!
