TTW Welcomes New Board Chair

Table Tennis Wales has appointed Nicki Arthur as its new Chair of the Board of Directors following Julian Boyer’s retirement from the role.

After leading the Board for 2 years, Julian recently decided to step down from the Chair role and the Board agreed that Nicki would prove an excellent successor to complete the term.  Table Tennis Wales achieved some significant milestones during Julian’s tenure including driving forward improvements in governance, Board recruitment and developing a long-term vision and strategy for the sport.

On announcing his intent to step down, Julian expressed his gratitude to have been a part of such a vibrant table tennis community:

I have thoroughly enjoyed my time with TTW and feel incredibly privileged to have had the opportunity to serve. I leave with pride for what has been achieved, especially during a significant transformation. There is also a feeling of being unfulfilled as there remains so much more to do. However, the time is right for a new chair to lead TTW through the next steps and I have every confidence in Nicki, the board, the CEO and all of the staff in ensuring the forward momentum continues.”

“Most of all I have confidence in you, the TTW community, whose passion for the game in Wales is quite simply inspirational, and I thank you all for inspiring me throughout my time as chair. My sincerest best wishes and thanks to you all”

The Board and staff of Table Tennis Wales wishes to thank Julian for all his energy and commitment to the role and whole heartedly welcomes Nicki into the Chair position.  Nicki has spent nearly 2 years on the Board as the Director for Commercial Development and is delighted with her new role:

“I would just like to thank Julian for all of his hard work and dedication, there have been some hurdles to cross and some tough decisions that have had to be made, but he has steered us in a great direction of travel. I hope to carry on the mantle and ensure that we drive to achieve and finish what we have set out to do. We have a fantastic board in place with excellent coaches, clubs and volunteers, which puts us in a fantastic place to reach our strategic objectives.”

The current situation like everyone else has made us think a little differently, adapt the way that we work, ensuring everyone is safe and well. Despite some setbacks time wise we have still managed to continue with our safeguarding programme, our Performance Framework and some tweaks in our structure, to name just a few initiatives.  I am looking forward to the challenge and also to working with some exceptional individuals.”
